If your
vacation travels include a visit to Denver, Colorado; Denver's proximity
to other places makes it an ideal base for day trips.
For
the majestic beauty of alpine mountains be sure to visit Rocky
Mountain National Park. The Park is located 71 miles (110 KM) North
and West from Denver. Within its 416 square miles are hundreds of miles
of hiking trails, lakes, waterfalls and an array of wildlife like bighorn
sheep, coyote, and elk. While in the Park plan to drive over Trail Ridge
Road the highest contagious highway in the world. Just outside of
Rocky Mountain National Park is the town of Estes Park where you can relax,
shop, and visit fine restaurants, a complete family destination.

your plans include relaxing and some gambling, be sure to visit the historic
towns of Central City and Black Hawk located 34 miles (55 KM) from Denver.
These two historic mining towns were once called the "Richest Square Mile
on Earth"?? The towns were built in the 1870s; people still come here looking
to strike it rich. Here you will find over 30 casinos offering slot machines,
blackjack, and poker. In addition, to the casinos you will see the best
preserved Victorian Architecture in the west.
Don't
forget to visit the Garden of the Gods with its magnificent sandstone formations.
The Garden of the Gods is located approximately 60 minutes south of Denver.
One of the most popular features is Balanced Rock, a huge sandstone boulder
that hangs preciously near the road. The Garden of the Gods offers hiking,

No
trip is complete without a visit to Pikes Peak, just 77 miles (123.9 KM)
from Denver; it's the most visited mountain in North America. Pikes Peak
was the symbol for the 1859 Colorado Gold Rush with the slogan "Pikes Peak
or Bust"?? Today getting to the summit of Pikes Peak could not be easier
with the Pikes Peak Cog Railway. The 8.9 mile, 3hour and 10 minute round
trip will give you breathtaking views of rock formations and pine forest.
This scenic trip begins and ends at the historic Manitou Springs Station.
While
Denver offers many fine art galleries, excellent restaurants, shopping,
and sports, just a short drive from Denver you could be visiting mountain
towns and the great outdoors.
